During the last two years, U.S. hospitals and health systems have very quickly deployed a lot of telemedicine systems to take care of patients during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Many of these systems were not planned in great detail, and not planned with a great deal of permanence in mind. Telehealth took hold, though, and now healthcare provider organizations face a future of hybrid care – part in-person care and part virtual care.
The National Institute of Standards and Technology's National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence published its final guidance this week on securing telehealth and remote patient monitoring ecosystems. The guide is intended, according to NCCoE, to help identify risks associated with RPM architecture and ensure healthcare organizations are partnering with appropriate telehealth platform providers.
